High Point Academy is a free public charter school founded in 2014. We are Spartanburg County’s only charter school serving kindergarten through 12th-grades. High Point Academy provides a secure and safe environment for students who live in South Carolina regardless of assigned school district. High Point Academy is one of 39 school members of the South Carolina Public Charter School District.
High Point Academy is built on the principles of honor, integrity, and service. HPA is led by certified teachers anchored in an applied learning style of instruction with an emphasis in S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education as well as character development and leadership training. Through a partnership with family and community, each student will be challenged to achieve their highest potential academically, socially, and personally.
Charter schools are state-funded, free public schools that have the flexibility to adapt to the educational needs of individual students.
The purpose of a charter school is:
- Improve student learning
- Increase learning opportunities within the public school system
- Create new teaching opportunities attracting new teachers
- Establish new forms of accountability for public schools
- Encourage innovative and different learning methods
