It took a little longer than normal, but the Varsity Grizzlies Soccer Team came out on top in a hard fought battle against the Chesnee Eagles. While it took both five minute periods of extra time to get the win, the Grizzlies managed to get the win 1-0 over the Eagles. The lone goal of the match came from senior midfielder Walker Sharpe. The next game for the varsity team will be Monday, March 23 as HPA takes on Spartanburg Christian Academy at home. Game time will be 5:30.
Any 7th-12th-grade student who is interested in playing soccer during the upcoming season should attend tryouts on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, January 27th through the 29th. Students may drive to the Bryant Road facility (2427 Bryant Road, Chesnee, SC 29316), or buses will also transport students after school. Students riding the bus should meet immediately after school at the red square. Tryouts will last until 6:00 pm each day. Students should be picked up at the Bryant Road location. If players are playing another sport (basketball or wrestling) and cannot attend, they must contact Coach Davis and let him know they are interested in playing.
Soccer practice for the upcoming season will start on Monday, January 13. Practices will be Monday through Friday from 3:45 until 6:00pm. Players interested in participating must have a physical on file with the athletic office before participating. This is for grades 7th -12th, girls and boys.
The Grizzly soccer team added another tally to the win column, by defeating the Oakbrook Prep Knights 3-0. The Grizzlies were led by goals from Brockman Dittemore (1), Michael Shevchuk (1), and Will Poplawski (1).
The High Point Academy Grizzly Soccer team fell to the Carolina High Trojans, Tuesday night, in a hard-fought 3-2 loss. The Grizzlies were led by goals from 8th-grader Will Poplawski, and sophomore Jackson Underwood in the loss. They play again Thursday (Feb. 28) at Brynes. Match time is 5:00 p.m.
