After 39 years in education, Mr. James Fox has decided to officially retire. Mr. Fox is known as a legend in the band community in South Carolina. As a High School Band Director, his band won the Marching Band State Championship three consecutive years. We are honored that he chose to end his career by teaching band to students in 6th-12th grades at HPA.
Inside the classroom, Mr. Fox set high expectations for his students, “When teaching music to students, I want them to discipline themselves to put in the hard work throughout the process, in order to get the results they desire,” Mr. Fox said. “I want them to realize that you must work hard for success.” His band room has always been a place of constant musical learning. Mr. Fox always pushed students to be their best. “My favorite teaching moments were seeing successes by students. It may be when one finally plays their first note, or when one plays a challenging passage after working on it for a long time. I enjoy seeing students demonstrating a good work ethic.”
Mr. Fox has been married for 40 years. He has two children and three beautiful grandsons. He enjoys spending time with his family and is looking forward to welcoming his first granddaughter this fall. In retirement, Mr. Fox is most looking forward to relaxing on his deck and enjoying the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are excited to celebrate this with Mr. Fox and wish him well in his well-deserved retirement!
