This High Point Academy Spartanburg Grizzly math teacher is celebrating four decades in education! Mrs. Donna Norman is our Middle School Teacher Spotlight for December. This is her second year at HPA and her 41st year overall. Mrs. Norman teaches 8th-grade math and Algebra I.
In the classroom, her goal is to move students forward in their math skills, but she also aims to create life-long learners. “I want my students to understand that learning how to persist in solving any problem is a life-long skill that will benefit them in many ways,” said Mrs. Norman. “Mathematics teaches us how to think logically-to be able to move from the beginning step to the last step in the most productive way.” She works to establish a “family” atmosphere for students. These middle schoolers spend time learning how to work together in a collaborative way, encouraging one another to be successful. “Helping my students obtain knowledge and skills to use beyond the classroom and be successful is what keeps me motivated.”
When away from HPA, Mrs. Norman enjoys live theatre. Her biggest hobby is working on- stage and back-stage with the Mill Town Players in Pelzer. She also enjoys time with her husband, Jeff, who is the band director at Greer High School. They have two adult children, a son, and a daughter. They also have a 15-year-old mini poodle named Wynton, and he rules the house!
