The March Elementary Teacher Spotlight for High Point Academy Spartanburg is Katherine Woodard. Mrs. Woodard teaches fourth grade. She joined the HPA team in 2015. Teaching isn’t just a job for Woodard; being an educator is her passion. Her goal is to inspire and encourage all of her students just as she was in school. “There is nothing like seeing the joy in a student’s eyes when they get excited about a subject they never liked before, or they make a real life connection to what I am teaching them in the classroom,” Woodard said. She not only prepares students to achieve their highest potential academically; she also hopes to help them be better people. “While learning is very important in my classroom, so is being kind and having fun. I promote diversity, equity, reading choice, and hands-on projects that require teamwork and communication.” Mrs. Woodard was also selected as this year’s Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Woodard and her husband have been together for six years. They have a four-year-old son, Vince. Mrs. Woodard enjoys reading, writing, cooking, and going to the beach.
