Job Shadowing Day

  • Posted on:  February 8, 2019

High Point Academy | Spartanburg, SCOn March 1, any High Point Academy Spartanburg student in 5th through 12th-grades are invited to take part in our Job Shadowing Day! This is an excellent opportunity for students to begin narrowing down future career choices.

Students are given the opportunity to shadow a job or career of their choice. Students will be responsible for finding their placements and transportation for this experience. Shadowing will provide several advantages including:

  • Opportunity to observe first hand the occupational duties and expectations required in a specific job or career and observe an employee performing on the job

  • Gain an information base to assist in career decisions that are more compatible with their interests and skills

  • Increase motivation to excel in school

  • Broaden understanding of requirements of a specific occupation in the “real” world

  • Develop more self-confidence in working with adults and in job interviews

The day will be counted as an excused field trip as long as the required paperwork is turned into the Google Classroom. You can go to Google Classroom and enter the code QSPNBF to join. This is where all of your work and pictures will be submitted.

Please read all the directions carefully and pay attention to due dates. An example letter the student can personalize and send via email to request to shadow, the Job Shadowing Assignment and the Parent Permission Form is below. Parents are allowed to take their child to work and let their child shadow them, but all paperwork must still be completed. A minimum of five hours is required along with a signature of the person shadowed or a manager.

Please note, the Shadowing agreement is due no later than February 26th. Students are responsible for uploading the parent permission form and the shadowing questionnaire to the classroom no later than March 6th. If the questionnaire is not turned by March 6th, the absence will be considered unexcused. No late forms or questionnaires will be accepted.

Students are also responsible for lunch money during the shadowing experience and will be encouraged to write a thank you note to the employer after the experience.

We are excited to offer this opportunity to our students! For any questions, please email Beth Thomas or call at 864-316-9788 ext. 702.
