Students also have the opportunity to show leadership and help save lives by recruiting blood donors for our upcoming blood drive. You can support them and our school by donating blood, recruiting other donors or volunteering at the blood drive. Each student who recruits one blood donor to come on October 16th will receive an American Red Cross medal!

High Point Academy Spartanburg was founded on the principles of Honor, Integrity, and Service. The Spartanburg charter school is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide multiple services for our Upstate area. This has been an excellent way for our school to give back to our community and show our appreciation and pride that we have for our school and our neighbors. Last school year was our inaugural campaign with the Red Cross blood drive program, and we were able to collect 138 units of blood which provided over 300 usable blood products. That is more than 300 lives impacted by our HPA family alone.

This drive will include “A Power Red” collection. This process collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood. The most common form of donation, during which approximately a pint of ‘whole blood’  is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour.
