Online Security For Students at School & Home

High Point Academy | Spartanburg, SCTechnology is a big part of today’s educational process at High Point Academy Spartanburg, but we also understand the importance of providing students with a safe and effective way to utilize that technology. That’s why we use Securly for web filtering. This service is always protecting students at the school, in the classroom, and it can also provide protection at home. Securly provides our teachers and administrators the eyes and ears they need to maintain online safety at all times.

High Point Academy Spartanburg SC has two ways to set up policies for blocking and filtering web content, a school policy, and a take-home policy. With the school policy, all social media is blocked, as well as websites with gaming categories that aren’t educational. This means students should not be able to access any social media services or gaming sites while utilizing our devices and while on the school provided internet. With the Take Home Policy, parents have the ability to login with a Securly account and monitor their student’s web activity. Additionally, parents can set their restrictions on what their student has access to while they’re away from the school’s internet access. Parents may also choose to receive a weekly summary of their child’s online activity at school.

The software also contains cyberbullying and self-harm detection features. Whenever Securly detects a possible sign of distress, school administrators are notified, allowing for a quick and suitable solution.

A Parent Securly account is automatically created for any High Point Academy students who have been issued school devices. This includes sixth-graders through seniors in high school. The parent account uses the parent email that is on file in PowerSchool. It is important to note that Take Home Policies do not take precedence over School Policies for “unblocking” sites and the Take Home Policies only take “blocking” precedence while the student’s device/account is not being used on the school network.
