September’s High School Teacher Spotlight is Mr. Kenn Ball. Mr. Ball is a graduate of North Greenville University. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Secondary English. Mr. Ball chose to teach English because he believes there is power in words. Mr. Ball thinks “it’s important to help the next generation of citizens use that power effectively, responsibly, and productively.”
When asked to share his thoughts on High Point Academy, Mr. Ball shared that he, “loves High Point Academy! As a public charter school, we can strike a great balance between making sure that our students are meeting or exceeding the same standards as any other students in the state while simultaneously using innovative pedagogical approaches to expose our students to more than the minimum requirements expressed by those standards. Every year, we take further strides toward becoming South Carolina’s premier school of choice.”
Every Monday in class, Mr. Ball performs a quick magic trick before getting the day started. “We call it “Magic Mondays. If I ever forget, the students always remind me,” Mr. Ball added. In addition to reading magic books and practicing the tricks, in his spare time, he also likes to watch old sitcoms and 80s movies.
High Point Academy is a community-centered school built on the principles of honor, integrity, and service where academic excellence, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education, and a project-based, applied learning instruction builds tomorrow’s leaders.
