Special Board Election Information

High Point Academy | Spartanburg, SCThe High Point Academy Board of Directors will hold a special election to fill one (1) vacant unexpired seat, which expires on June 30, 2019. High Point Academy is working with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina (PCSASC) to manage the election process. This will ensure integrity and confidentiality in the process.

Anyone who is interested can complete the online filing form beginning Friday, September 14. Candidate filing will close on September 28 at 3:00 P.M.

 

High Point Academy Board Members are required to attend all board meetings, and within a year of being elected, all board members are required, by law, to attend board training. The free training will be offered across the state and online by the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina.

 

Per the South Carolina Charter Schools Act, as amended, boards are elected by the families of charter school students and employees of the school. If a family has multiple children enrolled at High Point Academy they will receive an e-ballot for each student. Please ensure the school has a current email address on file. Each ballot will have a unique code to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the process. Computers and paper ballots will be available at the school during normal school hours for families with no internet access or with limited computer knowledge.

Voting Timeline:

  • October 2, 2018: Candidate information and application answers posted online.
  • October 10-12, 2018: Election. Voting opens with e-ballot links emailed to each parent/guardian and employee of the school. Voting will open at 8:00 A.M. on October 16 and close at 4:00 P.M. on October 18. There is one vote per child enrolled in the school and one vote per employee. Voting will be available via e-ballot allowing parents and employees to vote via the internet. Each ballot will have a unique pin number to ensure confidentiality and integrity of the process. Computers and paper ballots will be available at the school during normal school hours for families with no internet access or with limited computer knowledge.
  • October 15, 2018: Election results will be certified, candidates will be notified by email, and elected school board members will be announced publicly.
  • October 22, 2018: Board of Directors Meeting. New board members will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled October board meeting. This completes the election process.
