It’s probably not the first thing or even in the top ten things your student has in mind for the summer break. But reading may be the ideal summer activity. It’s fun, portable, can involve the whole family. Research shows continued reading throughout the summer break will also help students academically. The “summer slide” affects many children, especially struggling readers. Students often forget some of what they’ve learned or slip out of practice during the summer months. That’s why at each level HPA students will have activities to complete to keep them reading over the summer break.
Elementary, middle, and students at the high school level will have summer reading assignments. These will be age and grade level appropriate.
